Mama Fit

My weight loss journey is trucking right along. It's coming off slowly but I'm not complaining.

I've been weighing in every week using an old set of scales that was left in this house when we moved in. I knew they weren't the most accurate scales, but I adjusted it manually each time before weigh in trying to help the poor thing out.

Finally, today I bought a new set. A fancy new digital one. It's sleek, made of glass and is shiny and brand new. Sort of reminds me of how I've been feeling lately having dropped a few pounds!

I opened them up in the kitchen and each kid had their turn stepping on the 'forbidden' glass. Faith exclaimed, "But Mom, It's glass! You want me to stand on it?"

Finally they said, "Mom, it's your turn!"

I had already weighed this morning, so I wasn't going to weigh again. Especially being fully dressed with a coat and boots, but they insisted, so I stepped on.

The numbers flashed a few times and finally locked in on a number that was 5 KILOS MORE than what the old scale said this morning!! (that's over a 10 pound difference!)

My heart sank....the old scales were wrong...bad wrong! I've been living a lie. Believing I weigh 10 pounds less than what I actually weigh. My goal was getting so close. Now it's like I have to start over again....I'm drowning my sorrows in a banana split. I'm gonna do it I tell ya...and you can't stop me!! By the time you read this it'll be all over but the crying.

I'm so sorry! I know how that feels. But you still HAVE lost weight, don't forget that part. Drown your sorrows in a guilt-free banana split, and then get back on the diet wagon tomorrow!

Oooooh, Baby. I'm sorry about the bad scale!

I hope you can just remember how you were feeling before the Evil Scale of Glass arrived.

How you feel and how your clothes fit matters more than pounds, right?

My confession: I just ate a BIG handful of conversation hearts.

Oh Nina, what a bummer!
But either way you still lost, you just maybe started a little higher.

No way I'm checking to see if my scales are right, NO WAY!

Hope the split was worth it!!

I like what I think Tori said...you still lost!! That's the important point. In the end, numbers don't matter...our clothes fitting does! Keep smiling! Especially after the split! Yummy!

It is also annoying when you weight 10 pounds more on doctor's scales.

No, that scale is weighing that heavy coat and those muddy boots. Not mention that heavy sweater and your skirt must weigh 4 pounds by itself. Then there's undergarments...these things all add up.

I'd go back to the old scale. It does wonders for your self-esteem.

Enjoy that banana split and do yourself a favor, don't get back on the scale today. :-)

Hi Nina,

I lost 50 lbs. a couple of years ago and kept most of it off - I still needed to lose 10 more, though, and then I gained back 10 over the last year; so now I have 20 to go. I finally decided to weigh myself once a month - then I get to see a bigger loss instead of playing with the numbers. Anyway, you still lost the same amount of pounds - that didn't change. You just maybe have a little farther to go than you thought (though when you take off the boots, clothes and evening weight it will be less than you thought - of course, then you have to add for the banana split :) Anyway, hang in there. It isn't a temporary goal - the ultimate purpose is to bring glory to God!! You are a blessing!

Bummer about the scales error!! That would be discouraging.

I have a nurse friend & we are dieting together. Her dr. told her that if she eats 45 carbs per meal & 15 carb snack right before you go to bed you will lose weight. To maintain weight most people eat 60 carbs per meal.

I have been doing this for the last 2 weeks & have lost 4 1/2 lbs & 2 inches! We are using something called www.myfitnesspal.com. to calculate what we eat. If you try it and want to join our little accountability group my id is boreedken. :-) My friend is our Church's Missionary Directors wife.

That same thing happened to me today with my old bathroom scale (the one that was under my dresser for four years) and the fancy doctor-style scale at the gym. Ugh. I feel your pain.
